Youtube's 'HD' is really just mp4, you don't have to encode to H.264. You can actually get better quality and a smaller file size by encoding into mp4 over the H.264, just be sure your output resolution is 1280x720

After effects is not for compressing. Its a bad habit to use it with After effects. Its not that good.

Yep, no HD in XP, only the new Live Movie Maker and the vista one has it

Wrong.

Screen Shot of My computer, Windows XP - WMM:

It's just another one of those gimmicks to get you to buy Vista. Simply adding a custom file will give you the options to various high resolution outputs.

Download this file:

http://www.mediafire.com/?im11mjy1ryo

Extract/Copy and Paste to:

C:\program files\Movie Maker\shared\profiles

There ya go. WMM with HD output.

Just figured I'd clear that up on this old dead pre-necro'd post. . .

There's a file you can put into Windows Movie Maker for Windows XP to have HD output. Just search it on YouTube or use the file provided above.

Here's what HD should look like when rendered with Sony Vegas Pro 8.0 Smiley

I agree, sony vegas is the best basic editor, though after effects is the ultimate pack for vfx, like explosions... and... uhhh... explosions...
