The image above says it all, according to the slides leaked at QuakeCon 2009, AMD is gearing up to launch its Evergreen family of DirectX 11-supporting graphics cards next month. Actually, AMD showcased it to some lucky guys a few days ago, they didn't see the actual card inside the system or any spec information but they did have a play around on Wolfenstien and performance was excellent and very stable. Although no-one saw the card, by checking out the back of the PC they confirmed it was a dual slot cooled card and was sport 1 x DVI and Dual Displayports. Not many details were given yet, but anyway, AMD will be the first to deliver DX11-compliant hardware, while NVIDIA will catch up later in late 2009 Q4 or in early 2010 Q1.

it's called future proofing, anyway AMD always provide the DVI to HDMI adapter so there's no need to fuss

FOOL! What will we do when 2560x1600 becomes standard??

Really though, DisplayPort is 100x better than HDMI. HDMI is just literally DVI + sound.

Pretty much DisplayPort>HDMI, because even after all those revisions, HDMI still is weaker.

I think HDMI is only still popular now because everyone recognizes it as "The HD Cable" and industry workers don't want to confuse people by bringing out different kinds of interfaces, but the reason they're providing them on graphics cards is because they expect people who are buying the card to know about the newer/better interface and expect them to understand what is needed to use the port, sorry i couldn't word it better

I just thought it was a replacement for SCART and because it provided Hi-def signals + audio.

i guess you could compare the generations like this

RYW cables - HDMI

SCART - DisplayPort

the SCART lead provided a much sharper picture than the RYW cables
