Of course you could always buy the build minus the video card and get it when the prices go down. Incremental upgrades FTW.

I thought the main CTV forum advice, was to buy everything at once instead of buying single parts over time.....

A 650w PSU can run a HD5870.

Hell a 550w can too.

+1

A good Corsair or PCPC would be able to handle it.

Thanks Nick  Smiley

I will be playing with 1920x1080 resolution, but those games they benchmarked are a little old and not very demanding(at least L4D isn't), sooooooo i think i'll get myself a 5870  Cool

I think the consensus is to buy platforms together i.e. not getting a DDR2 mobo because you have leftover RAM. However, video cards are different in that they're easily upgraded separately from the rest of the computer and there aren't really any compatibility issues.
Thanks Nick  Smiley

Okay, first off, Far Cry 2 is a pretty demanding game.
Second, those seem to be higher differences between the cards than most benchmarks I've seen.
Third, a 5770 is enough to play most games at 1920 x 1080 (I know, I have one) let alone a 5850. A 5870 is really only worth it if you're running 2560 x 1600 as that's when a 5850 starts to struggle. Any game that's not getting 60FPS on a 5850 at 1080p only needs 30FPS to look smooth.

Acctually one of nVidia's marketing managers said that the GT200 series was overpriced by a lot. I think they should have learned from ATI which more or less priced correctly. Nvidia should expect to see a cut in prices when their cards hit the market so I think they'll price as appropriately as they can against the 5 series from ATI, if they don't ... the only people that are gona be buying them will be fanboys ... Expect them to be out in march but hell the chance that they are at least 40% better then the 5 series is by this point unknown aswell as unexpected and the more mainstream cards are always announced later ...

Well, not just fanboys, but also people who do a lot of GPU-based calculations e.g. serious folders. Whether or not GT300 is going to be overpriced, I suspect it will be very expensive regardless. Also, it's coming out this year. No question. Only question is when. I'm betting on April, but for all anyone knows it could be as late as July. Wouldn't guess later than June, though.
