If you're mostly gaming it's not worth the effort (and the $100). It doesn't really make it "faster," it just makes some programs use the cores more efficiently. In gaming it'll make little difference, if any at all.

Basically there's no significant performance boost. Nothing you can really notice.

If you guys are saying HT is nothing at all, then why did Intel make this new technology in the first place?

Multi-threaded support, it allowed for somewhat faster performance as it allowed a small amount of multi-threaded application, although the gains were offset(at least during the Prescott era) by the bad arch and the intense memory eating it did.

With enough RAM though it does somewhat improve performance.

But again, it's only in heavily multithreaded apps e.g. encoding and that crap.

Ok, then if I get AMD Phenom cpu, instead of the Core i7, it really wouldn't matter?

I'm going to quickly put up a build and by next week or after V-Day I'll start to buy the parts and take pictures and post them here

Thanks  Grin

I'd still recommend going with i5, but in gaming the difference between AMD and an i7 doesn't justify the price.

Forget price its only a matter of time when the i5 gets phased out its Practically a renamed C2Q with tweaks here and there i7 will keep you future proof for a while and if you look at it its not much of a price difference to let it go.  Cool

I feel like copying Playerboy's future build.
Case: CM HAF 932

PSU: Corsair HX750w.

MOBO: ASUS P6T

CPU: Intel Core i7 920

RAM: Corsair XMS3  6gb ddr3

GPU: Ati Radeon HD5870

HDD: Western Digital Caviar® Black™ 640GB

Maybe change a few things or add a few things in there but something like this.
Hope it's ok with him though lol

Then again you guys tell me that I should get i5 if I am just gaming so I guess change the CPU and mobo.

...and for all intensive purposes, a different CPU and motherboard based on different architecture are entirely different rigs. But yeah, basing a computer on that rig would be a good one.

About the AMD CPU
Is the Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition the best AMD cpu out right now?
The price is pretty reasonable.  Cool

Yes, but as there's no practical difference between it and the 955 there's no real reason to go for the 965.

I think I should buy this stuff from NCIX.
Maybe even let them build it for me.
I build and help my computer teacher repair PC like everyday so if I was to build it I would understand how to do it lol

Just the parts and all that stuff is the part I need to talk about with people who know these things very well

I'll post the spec and this is what I'm going for also I'll put it up on the FIRST PAGE.
