Hello!

I have been looking at the GTS 250 vid card and was wondering if i could even fit it in my case.Heard it was a two slot card but it seems my ram may block it.If anyone could let me know if i can use it or not it
would be great appreciated Smiley

My comp is the:
HP Pavilion Elite HPE-140f PC Intel® Core™ i5-650 Processor 8GB Ram, 1TB Hard Drive & Windows® 7 Home Premium

noob-ish question i know but just want to be sure before i drop 150 on the card Tongue

Well, can't say I know the case, but if you're worried about the length of the card, you can get a Gigabyte model with a custom heasink, since it's a very short one. If you've got about 8.75-9" of room it should fit.

As for the RAM blocking it, RAM won't block a dual-slot card, since the second slot sits below the PCB while the RAM would be above it. However, depending on your motherboard's layout it may be a tight fit such that you'll need to remove the video card to swap your RAM.

Length is not an issue at all and if my RAM will not block it  then there shouldn't be any problems, just need to get a new psu now and im good to go.
Thanks alot for the response Smiley

EDIT*  Just took another look inside and it still may block it.Looking inside the comp from the right side,my RAM is to the left of the card and a little lower so it looks like a longer card...and lower may hit my RAM.
Unless the dual slot occupies the slot ABOVE the actual slot used to plug in.Been looking around and have found some decent one slotters like the 9800 GT.

Thanks again for the help though!

The Dual slot cooler takes up a space below the PCI-E. That shouldn't be too bad since RAM is usually above it.

And go for the GTS250, it's pretty decent, just make sure you have a good PSU.

If you could upload pictures we can tell you what to do although for the GTS-250 I rather get a ATI HD5770 you get better performance and less power consumption at a little bit extra money

Yeah. I'd even say go for a 5750 over a 250...unless he folds or something...

WOW my mistake guys...seems like my comp is a little different than most and opens on the opposite side so i think dual slot cards will occupy the slot above which is great.sorry to waste anyones time and Thanks for the help/advice folks!

I will probably be going with the 5770 after i get a psu that can handle it Smiley

...but a 5770 actually uses less power than a 250...

BTW, ATI's 5000 series has the best power / watt of all time!

If the hp is store bought, you can't install new hardware cuz the mobo turns to shit and you have to send it to India. Just letting you know.

Sure it's a great card, but most people don't have $400 to drop on a video card right now, not to mention a better PSU to run it. Unless he's gaming at at least 1920 x 1200 there's no reason to get a card that powerful. Not to mention with a 5770 you can Crossfire them and get about the same performance as a 5770 for less money.

Side-note, if you do go with a 5770 try to get MSI's HAWK edition; it's got an awesome cooler and OCs like nobody's business.

I'd say the HD5770 as well, it's good as it is.

@ rooftoptile- not saying you are wrong but i am willing to risk it.If anything goes wrong i wont be sending it anywhere...ill replace w/e breaks down myself.

@ Playerboy8- that is exactly why i am not getting that card.I am primarily a console gamer,i love my PS3 and 360.So i dont need or want a super awesome gaming rig.I just want something that can play some of the more recent games 25+ fps Smiley

Though i have been reading that ALOT of people are having issues with the 5770 and any other 5*** due to drivers being bastards...anyone willing to elaborate on it? If the drivers are so bad they cause screens of death and vertical lines etc etc i dont really want one of those Tongue

The drivers are actually pretty solid. Some games get poor minimum FPSes but it's just kind of stuttering and doesn't really detract from the game. For instance my FPS can get down to 10 in FC2 (from 45 normally) when driving, but it's not for more than 5-10 seconds. It's a small gripe.
